پاکستان نے 28 مئی 1998ءکو چاغی کے پہاڑوں میں پانچ دھماکے کیے۔ جمعرات کا دن تھا اور سہ پہر 3 بجکر 40 منٹ پر یکے بعد دیگرے پانچ ایٹمی دھماکے کر کے پاکستان نے ہمسایہ اور دشمن ملک بھارت کی برتری کا غرور خاک میں ملا دیا۔ اس کےساتھ ہی پاکستان ایٹمی قوت رکھنے والا دنیا کا ساتواں اور عالم اسلام کا پہلا ملک بن گیا۔چاغی میں ہونےوالے دھماکوں کی قوت بھارت کے 43کلو ٹن کے مقابلے میں50 کلو ٹن تھی ۔ بھارت نے 11 مئی 1998ءکو فشن (ایٹم بم) تھرمو نیوکلیئر (ہائیڈروجن) اور نیوکران بموں کے دھماکوں کے بعد پاکستان کی سلامتی اور آزادی کےلئے خطرات پیدا کر دیئے تھے اور علاقہ میں طاقت کا توازن تبدیل ہونے سے بھارت کے جارحانہ عزائم کی تکمیل کی راہ ہموار ہو گئی تھی۔ جسے روکنے کےلئے پاکستانی عوام کے علاوہ عالم اسلام کے پاکستان دوست حلقوں کی طرف سے سخت ترین دباﺅ ڈالا جارہا تھا کہ پاکستان بھی ایٹمی تجربہ کر کے بھارت کو منہ توڑ جواب دے۔
